I have the same problem with Hetzner / KonsoleH for SMTP-Server mail.your-server.de:587.
Does maybe updating phpBB help?

Using STARTTLS (no tls:// or ssl:// in server address) on Port 587 did it. I've tried al other combinations of protocol and port before![:roll:]( "Rolling Eyes")
